Redesign of The New York Times App.

Redesign of The New York Times App.

I just learnt some major things from the Resource about the Redesigning of the New York Times App.

The Redesign of the New York Times App was a necessity as it wasn't getting or having a wider reach of its consumers. The New York Times widely known for News introduced the New York Times App for user/subscribers to be updated of the recent happenings at all times, however the app lost much traffic and got less interest from its users.

Three UI/UX Designers Addi Hou, Ke Hull and Johny Vincent came together to redesign the New York Times App wearing the shoes of their subscribers to understand what they actually want from the app.

Some things I learnt are

1.Choosing Inclusion against overhauling

It's not always about overhauling a product and starting to build another from the scratch but just some changes or touches could go a long way. The designers also thought of the idea of the Users transitioning to analyse upgraded or better versions of the app.

2.Specific Indepth User Research

User Research was based on the youthful digital audience, focused on the young minds. Great information on how they (the youth) source their information was taken and they gave a feedback of what features or functions are of utmost importance or not. It was found that people are busy so they came up with the idea of pushing notifications on the New York Times App to send notifications of news articles based on their interests and when they are likely to check their phones which lead to "Timely" and made as brief as possible.

3. Ideation and Iteration Processes:

The designers created their Ideas and processes early enough. They had early story bonding, sketches, Wireframes, prototyping and that helped in exploration and choices for users to enable users choose what's best for them. Portrait mode or calendar mode(the display pattern of the app) also came up with ways the user can choose the features (manual filtering or automatic sync.

These processes are really eye-opening and can bring out the best in an app.
